Vampire Lust meets Vampire Romance in The Phantom King
The Phantom King by Heather Killough-Walden
The world that you and I know is just one of many worlds. Coexisting is another realm, one that contains vampires, demons, were-beings and warlocks, amongst other creatures of magic and more. It is a world of giant appetites and needs and would be utter chaos if not for The Thirteen Kings who sit in council and make the decisions that keep the supernatural world from descending into chaotic destruction. Over them all sits the Vampire King.
Amongst the Thirteen Kings sits one that is almost always silent. He is a King from another realm – a land where those who have died violent deaths stay until they have come to terms with the means of their death. It is a place of melancholy and grief where the Phantom King dwells in a desolate landscape of lingering despair.
Into this world steps the warlock Siobhan. She has worked hard all her life to maintain control of her powers; to be sure that no one is ever harmed by who and what she is. It is not easy and there is a price to pay for it. Looking to find answers to the death of her boyfriend, she enters the realm of the grey king and finds instead an unexpected attraction.
The power of this vampire romance is in the world that Heather Killough-Walden, or HKW as her fans refer to her, has created for them. She began the evolution of this world in the Big Bad Wolf Series and she continues to weave her magic in this new spin-off The Kings. We first began to see this side of the story in The Vampire King, a vampire romance tale of a paranormal romance writer who meets a dark mysterious stranger one day, who it turns out, is everything she has imagined. He is the Vampire King, and his desire for her changes her life forever.
Now we see another King in The Phantom King, and we find out that vampire romance comes in many shapes and colors. With another after Siobhan with the intention of using her power to increase his own, and Thane the Phantom King discovering she is the one who is destined to be his Queen, she has some decisions to make. We continue to see the other characters introduced in the last book, but this one is truly about Thane and Siobhan and like any good vampire romance story we feel the erotic power between them.
Although you could read this book on its own, I do recommend if you can to read The Vampire King first, even if it is just to introduce the other characters. Each book in this series will explore another King and is its own vampire romance as we discover in it who will be their Queen. It is the romance of ancient gods and new creatures of magic, and it is a wonderful world to visit.
