Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole Title: Kiss of a Demon King
Author: Kresley Cole
Pages: 432
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Kiss of Demon King is the sixth novel in Kresley Cole’s popular ‘Immortals After Dark’ paranormal romance series. As with the other books in the series, this one is also a stand alone story. However, there is a cross over of characters from earlier novels and a loose skeleton of a story that flows through the series. So I’d suggest you start with the earlier books, if you’re new to the series.

As for those who are religiously following the series, you’d know that the ousted demon king Rydstrom, was kidnapped by his archenemy sorceress Sabine within the plot of the previous novel in the series – Dark Desires After Dusk. Kiss of a Demon King opens right here.

In Cole’s fictional world demons are destined to have one special mate without whom they are unable to have children. So that is Rydstrom’s fate. He has waited close to 1500 years and still hasn’t found his destined female. Not only that Rydstorm’s kingdom and his loyal subjects are now in the hands of the evil Omort and his sister Sabine and it’s up to him to rescue both from their unlawful hands.

In all the 1500 years that he’s waited for his mate Rydstrom had never once dreamed that his fated mate would be anything but virtuous and noble. Very early in the book Rydstrom realizes that the wicked sorceress Sabine is his fated mate. This book really isn’t about Rydstrom finding his mate but really about the battle of wills that ensues after their meeting.

Cole’s portrayal of their differences and their battle of wits is enough to keep you glued to those pages. Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole has all the ingredients necessary for a fantastic paranormal romance – piping hot romance, clashing well developed personalities, humor, demons, sorceresses and even vampires! This one is a thoroughly entertaining read.

Deep In The Woods (Vampire Babylon) by Chris Marie Green Deep In The Woods
by Chris Marie Green

With the 6th, and final, installment of the Vampire Babylon Series, Chris Marie Green brings to conclusion Costin’s search for the “Dragon” and wins him the chance to reclaim his soul.

The members of Limpet & Associates have “possession” of one of the two Underground Masters, Claudius (aka Claudia), and the girls of Queenshill are determined to get to him. Oh, they don’t want to rescue him! They want to kill him. They are tired pf playing second fiddle to Claudius when it comes to Wolfie’s affections and they are determined to rectify the situation for good.

Driven to the secondary Head Quarters as a result of the attack by the “girls”, Dawn is forced to reveal that Costin is gone. He’s already set out to destroy the underground and has left explicit instructions not to follow. Understandably, some of the members are upset and Dawn is extremely worried. He should have been back by now. But back “from where” is the problem. Costin didn’t divulge this information to Dawn, so it`s up to her figure out his intended location and finish the destruction of the Underground, should he be unsuccessful. Under no circumstances is Dawn to make an attempt to rescue Costin. The destruction of the underground is the first and only priority.

With Vampires, Spirits, and Friends (ghosts) readers will most definitely be kept turning page after page, reading installment after installment! And alas, many readers may find themselves, as I have, a little sad that the adventure is over. But do not fret, the ending is a great one and I am sure there will be many more great adventures to come from this amazing author, Chris Marie Green!

Empire of Fear An Epic Vampire Novel by Brian Stableford Empire of Fear: An Epic Vampire Novel
by Brian Stableford

In an epic novel the Washington Post called “riveting,” Brian Stableford brilliantly imagines a world ruled by a powerful aristocracy of vampires: long-lived, extraordinarily handsome humans who are immune to pain but must drink the blood of their common subjects. The story begins in seventeenth-century London and spans three hundred years-moving from England to the heart of Africa, to Malta, and finally to the New World.

Edmund Cordery, Mechanician to the court of Richard Coeur-de-Lion, believes that vampire beings must have a natural explanation. But when his discoveries make him dangerous in the eyes of his masters, Edmund entrusts his learned secrets to his son, Noell, who in turn becomes a fugitive. When he returns to Europe he faces the awesome might of Coeur-de-Lion and the infamous Vlad the Impaler.

This classic has been translated into five languages and “turn[ed] the typical vampire story on its ear” when it was published, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Dead Is Not An Option by Marlene PerezTitle: Dead Is Not an Option
Author: Marlene Perez
Pages: 252
Genre: Young Adult

Dead Is Not an Option is the fifth and final installment in the “Dead Is” series from fiction writer Marlene Perez. As with any final book of a series, it answered a lot of questions, tied up a lot of loose ends and was largely constructed on storylines from earlier books of the series. Although the novel had its own storyline that was thoroughly enjoyable, if you’re only now contemplating Marlene Perez, I’d suggest you start at the beginning. Not because you won’t enjoy this book without the backstory, but because after reading this book you’ll want to learn more about the characters and the events leading to the conclusion.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the book:

“It’s springtime of senior year, and psychic sleuth Daisy Giordano is preparing to say goodbye to Nightshade High. But no college acceptance letters have arrived yet, and she’s beginning to worry about where she’ll end up come fall—and if it will be anywhere near her boyfriend, Ryan. But that’s not the only uncertainty Daisy’s dealing with. There’s a vamps-versus-shifters war going on in Nightshade, and things are so tense that there is talk of canceling the prom. The conflict is carrying over to the Giordano home, since Rose and Daisy are both dating werewolves and Poppy’s new boyfriend is a vampire.

Can the paranormal community in Nightshade finally find peace? And will Daisy and her friends survive graduation? All of these questions and more are answered in the latest explosive installment in the Dead Is series.”

I really enjoyed learning about Daisy’s modern day life and those around her. In the town of Nightshade there are vampires, werewolves, witches, psychics and even some supernatural species I’ve not previously read about. As you can imagine, with that many paranormal folk around, there’s bound to be trouble. And there is.

Several people in the community have been murdered with their throats torn to shreds. This puts a strain on the already tenuous relationship between the vampire and werewolf community. Each accuses the other of the murders and tensions run high as the crimes remain unsolved. On top of that there’s a possibility that the crimes are being committed by the group known as The Scourge, a radical and ruthless group of humans sworn to eradicate the world of all supernatural beings.

Although Daisy is concerned about not yet receiving a college acceptance letter, she’s soon drawn into the war that’s brewing in her hometown. On top of that, she’s having a hard time fulfilling her promise to find a way to free a young woman (whose body and spirit are trapped inside a jukebox) and her fiance (whose body is trapped inside that of a pig). Especially since the witch responsible for cursing the couple has no intention of reversing the spell.

The novel was a good final installment in the “Dead Is” series and one I really enjoyed reading. If you like fun mysteries with a supernatural backdrop you’ll enjoy this book.

I wish there had been more written about Daisy and Ryan’s relationship because they’re really sweet together. However, I really liked the way this book ended. I’d say, Dead Is Not an Option by Marlene Perez is a nice finish to the series and a solid read in itself.
