Sam Moon Scores Again in New Addition to Vampire Romance Series

Vampire Games by J.R. Rain, vampire romanceVampire Games by J.R. Rain

If you have been following the adventures of Samantha Moon, or Sam as we like to call her, you know that our favorite soccer mom turned vampire is in the midst of a heavy vampire romance with Fang. Even if you don’t follow this excellent vampire romance series by J.R. Rain, I think this might not be a bad place to get into some vampire romance action with one of the coolest vampires I have met yet in the genre. This is a vampire unlike any other you may have read about in the vampire romance genre. There is a flippant quality I love in vampire heroines, but Sam does it with such style and determination.

Soccer Mom Turned Vampire

Sam was just your run of the mill ordinary housewife and soccer mom. She had the required minivan and a house in the suburbs. But an attack leaves her changed forever, and yet determined to not let this enormous shift in her life change her or those she loves.

This time around Sam is investigating the death of a boxer, which looks very wrong! As usual we see that being a vampire has its advantages and disadvantages, and Sam has them all! One of the things I really love about this whole series is Rain’s handling of his characters. Typical of this is how in this story he weaves the complications from the job Sam is investigating into the problems she is trying to solve at home, particularly with her kids.

Heart-Breaking Vampire Romance

There is some vampire romance happening as well, and some if it heart-breaking. I don’t want to give anything away, but with this particular character, I saw this coming in the last book and was sad for Sam, but not surprised. This particular vampire romance novel is a bit shorter than most of the others in this series, so you may find yourself through the story faster than you expected. But then, there are so many things happening, so many great characters you get completely behind (or want to push out a door!) that you can’t help yourself if you are snapping pages in quick succession.

I will echo the thoughts of others when I say that Sam is a very real and down to earth being for a vampire. Yes, she is smart and sassy, that seems to be a given in the genre these days. But I like her stubborn side. She will not give in to this change, she will not let it define her or own her. In the end it is one of the most appealing characteristics she has, and one that makes her pretty unique in the vampire genre.

A Vampire Series to Check Out

If you have never sampled this series, I suggest you give this one a try. Rain makes the characters and the storyline easy to get into. He doesn’t do the long boring “this is what happened” stuff, but he does drop enough clues to let a new reader feel comfortable. Guess that is what makes a good writer into a great writer.

So if you are looking for sparkly vamps with a superiority complex, well Sam is not your vampire. But if you want a smart, feisty and unique vampire who never sits on her laurels but keeps evolving, then Vampire Games may be just the ticket!
