Rumors Fly on Vampire Romance 50 Shades of Grey Film Roles
Of course, the books are barely on the best seller list for what – two or three months – and already the rumors are flying about who will be playing the lead roles in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Unless you have been under a rock, and certainly not reading this here blog, you would know that Fifty Shades of Grey (along with its companions Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) is the huge erotic vampire romance hit of the season.
The trilogy is about an older man (who is of course a vamp) and a younger woman (shades of Bella!) and the hot and heavy vampire romance that ensues.
Christian Not A Vampire? Say it isn’t So!
Okay- so I will confess that nowhere in the book does it say that C
hristian is a vampire. The fact that the author E.L. James began her career writing fan fiction based on Twilight just makes me think of Christian as a vampire. I mean, come on, he is older, sexy as hell and although rich never seems to actually do any work. Sounds like a vampire romance to me!
So already the media is having a fun time trying to pin down just who might be playing Edward and Bella, oh excuse me I mean, Christian and Ana in the film version of this interesting paranormal romance. Just because there aren’t any vampires doesn’t mean it is ordinary by any stretch of the imagination.
From The Vampire Diaries to Shades of Grey
The first rumors I heard were circulating at San Diego ComiCon this past week. It seems that someone decided that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries would make a great Christian and Ana. The only problem is that Ian and Nina had not heard anything of the sort and said so. I agree with Nina, if the two of them were cast as such most of their fans would go to the films and have Elena and Damon in their heads instead. So that rumor looks to be the creation of one or two over-excited fan dweebs at ComiCon. No real surprise there.
Then there was the rumor, put about by “What Culture” that Jensen Ackles of the hit show Supernatural might be number one on the list for the part of Christian. Well, okay but I don’t think he has quite the Q rating as someone like True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard who plays the ever-cool Eric. That would be my vote, if I had one.
Actually the one person we do know has a vote in the casting is the author, E.L. James. It is well known that part of the deal was that she would have final say on all things related to the film such as casting. I wonder who she is a fan of.
The other actor that is being named quite often for the role of Christian is Ryan Gosling, and he has even rated really high in the current fan polls about who we would like to see playing Christian in the film version of this sexy vampire romance that doesn’t actually have a vampire in it. Ah – come on we know who Christian is based on, so you can’t blame me for seeing Christian in that light.
So – who do you think should play Christian? Maybe we should take a poll ourselves to see who we want on that casting couch!! Ah- now there is a thought. Me – I would happily vote for Alexander. He is so cool and collected in True Blood, I can totally see him as Christian. Heck- that hair can be “bronze” with very little touch up! Then it really would feel like a vampire romance story!
