New Vampire Romance Themes- Vampire/Werewolf Romances
Whenever someone mentions the idea of having a vampire and a werewolf in a paranormal romance book, I naturally assume that they work a great deal like the two in Twilight. Sure, they are both there, but as rivals for the attentions and more of a woman. The idea that you would have a vampire romance story where the object of the vampire’s attentions is a werewolf is a new one to me. It doesn’t sound at first like it is something that would work. But in this werewolf and vampire romance series, it does somehow.
Cynthia Eden has created in her Vampire/Werewolf Romance Series some interesting characters that actually make the whole cross-cultural attraction work. Bound by Night is the latest in the series, the fourth book to come out and as captivating as the others. Let’s take a look at the whole series.
In the first book of the series, Bound by Blood a vampire princess marries a werewolf alpha male so that the two camps can unite against a common enemy: demons. The decision may go against everything they both believe in but in the end they know it is the best chance each of their people have for survival. Little did they count on finding that they were compatible in more ways than one! It has plenty of hot steamy scenes and werewolf that has decided that even if he gets rid of the demons, the princess is his and she stays. Oh – those alpha werewolves can be so pushy! But it is a fun romp of a book to read.
Bound in Darkness is the second book
in the series. Werewolf and vampire hunter Cade is supposed to hunt down and kill vampires, and he does it well. That is until he meets Allison, a young woman who is on the cusp of turning. He is supposed to befriend her, and then time his kill to prevent her from becoming a full-blown vampire. But somehow he didn’t count on falling for her, especially just as her enemies are circling in for their own kill. There is lots of blood in this one, but also plenty of romance and lust. If you like steamy- this one is for you.
Bound in Sin came out earlier this year and is the third book in the series. Paige is a human in love with a werewolf. Drake has marked her as his and nothing will keep them apart. That is until that fateful night when Paige is attacked by vampires and bitten. Turned into the werewolves’ worst enemy, she knows she has to leave not only her human life behind, but also her werewolf lover. She is prepared to leave him forever when she learns he is marked by the pack for death and vows to return and save him, no matter the cost. Eden got stronger as a writer with this one as she makes this story a short but sweet werewolf and vampire romance and adventure. Like the others, a quick read but the characters are really great in this one.
Bound by the Night is the latest in this series and easily the best. As you can see, you don’t have to read the previous ones to enjoy this book, but if you like what she is doing these stories will be like potato chips – you can’t stop at just one! This time around it is the Vampire Queen Iona who has been locked in a curse that has left her aware but unable to move for the last fifteen years. When alpha werewolf Jamie finds a way to release her from the spell, she becomes aware that the werewolf blood that saved her is now the only thing she craves. Jamie needs her power to help him gain revenge on the wolf that killed his family. But the Blood Queen wants none of this and fights to win her freedom from the creature that day by day brings her under a spell, this one a spell she wants and soon find she craves. We get lots of great steamy romance in this one without sacrificing the story or the action.
These are all great vampire romance stories with the interesting twist of the romance being between a werewolf and a vampire, creatures who are in most of paranormal fiction sworn enemies. She doesn’t really change that in these stories, she takes more the Romeo and Juliet approach. I love the idea of a vampire romance with an alpha werewolf; it really does bring the two “cultures” together and has plenty of room for some social commentary on the side. If you love vampire romance, if you love werewolf romance, heck if you love steamy romance these werewolf and vampire romance tales are your kind of stories!
