Great New Vampire Tale in Darkness Comes This Way
In a city where supernatural beings roam, vampires sometimes go rogue. When they do, it is like an infection that fans their bloodlust until one of the Guardians hunts them down and kills them. Zarah Duncan is a Guardian and she knows all about rogue vampires. She used to be one.
You aren’t supposed to be able to cure a rogue vampire, but somehow Zarah was cured. In fact, she is the only vampire who has ever been cured. It makes her work as a Guardian even more special for her, and she is dedicated to her work. But then her boss teams her up with Draven, a vampire hunter who disdains her while at the same time trying to ignore his attraction to her. He swears that no one is cured of being rogue and that she will infect him as well. But they must work together, so somehow they need to find a way to channel this dangerous attraction that seems to simmer just below the surface.
As if that isn’t bad enough, Zarah’s brother Thomas shows up and he has all kinds of interesting and disturbing news for her. He though he too is rogue, he seems to control his bloodlust and his concern for Zarah is his big redemption. But he brings news that is disturbing and possibly dangerous. It is the kind of news that if it got out could endanger the entire vampire community.
If you are looking for a new vampire tale with plenty of spice, lots of excitement and a few fallen angels along the way – Darkness Comes This Way is it! The characters really ring true in this new addition to the collection of vampire lore. There is plenty of excitement and no small amount of mystery. Whitfield sets up the clues in such a way that you can tell they are there, but they don’t give the story away. It is really refreshing to see a new writer that manages to run the mystery through a paranormal romance without losing track of the story.
There are just so many sound alike vampire books out there, it is great to read one where the world has been well thought out and the characters given time to coalesce into their own. This is a great new beginning to a new vampire tale series. I must admit I have never heard of Pixie Lynn Whitfield before but am definitely going to be watching for the next installment of this new vampire tale series.
