Bite – Vampire Short Stories

Bite, by Laurel K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, MaryJanice Davidson, Angela Knight and Vickie Taylor is a fabulous compilation of vampire short stories with a killer edge. Each story does a masterful job of creating interesting characters and intriguing plot lines. The lore of vampires is respected but no rules are strictly adhered to; Bite is a journey of the unexpected and is pure fun!

Here’s a summary of the stories in the book:

The Girl who was Infatuated with Death by Laurel K. Hamilton
Anita, hunter of the undead, has her hands full trying to keep the local vampires in check. When a grieving mother finds her and begs for help locating her missing daughter she is reluctant to say yes. The girl is trying to be turned into a vampire to save herself from cancer. It would complicate Anita’s life if the teenager succeeds so she agrees to help, knowing that turning underage kids is against the law and that she would have to stake the vamp that turned her. To help in her new hunt, Anita turns to her vampire friend Jean-Claude and the leader of the local werewolf pack; Ulfric. Together the three unlikely friends race against the clock in an effort to find a girl that only wants to stay lost.

One Word Answer by Charlaine Harris
Nothing is ever normal for Sookie Stackhouse. The psychic waitress from Louisiana is puttering around her yard one night with her vampire ex-boyfriend Bill when a limo pulls up to her house and a strange man steps out. He informs her of an inheritance but Sookie is immediately on her guard and senses that something is off with her late night. Is he really there to read Sookie the will or is someone (or something) waiting for her in the limo?

Biting in Plain Sight by MaryJanice Davidson
Sophie Trudeau lives in a quiet Minnesota town and works as a veterinarian that is only available at night. Sophie’s ageless beauty and her odd office hours have raised suspicion in the town but good manners keep them quiet. After all she’s a great doctor that’s always willing to come at night to care for any animal.
Liam is Sophie’s good friend and also the man secretly in love with her. He knows all Sophie’s secrets but his devotion keeps him silent. When several deaths occur in the area Sophie is sure that a rogue vampire is at fault so she sets out to discuss the matter with the kooky, effervescent and amusing Queen Betsy. This is a wonderful story of unexpected love, unrelenting loyalty and complete hilarity.

Galahad by Angela Knight
Get ready for a short ride of intense, colorful characters and a familiar story twisted into a wild and rollicking adventure. Galahad is the tale of King Arthur and his vampire knights living in the parallel universe Mageverse. The knights have vowed to save the human race with the help of a local coven of witches. But there’s a twist: the witches’ powers come from having sex with the heroic vampire knights.
When new witch Caroline starts having visions of an evil vampire cult she is understandably concerned. She turns to the sensual Sir Galahad for support and when her dreams become a reality she fights together with Galahad to stop evil forces from taking over. This clever story has all the ingredients to keep readers captivated and entertained.

Blood Lust by Vickie Taylor
Life hasn’t been easy for Daniel Hart. His vampire boss stole his research, his girlfriend, and left him for dead. Daniel is understandably upset and vows revenge but to enact the most effective justice he decides to first become a vampire. Such a task is not as easy as he might have thought. The author does a fine job establishing concrete characters with depth not typically seen in short stories.

Overall, I found Bite to be an enjoyable and well written read! You can get Bite at online booksellers.
